This book was primarily written to investigate the ramifications of the Supreme Court of Texas decision in State Farm Fire & Casualty v. Gandy in which the court invalidated certain types of settlements between insureds and tort plaintiffs as violations of public policy. In order to fairly treat the subject of sweetheart deals, the authors explore both Texas law and cases from other jurisdictions.
