This volume from the Texas District and County Attorneys Association is written for prosecutors to assist them in understanding the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 as well as how to access certain medical records. Topics covered include a thorough introduction to HIPAA, disclosures permitted to law enforcement, acquiring medical information, and civil issues related to HIPAA. Also included is an appendix that discusses Parts 160 and 164 of the Code of Federal Regulations as well as an appendix containing important forms.
